What is Hair Transplantation?
Hair transplantation is a natural and permanent solution to the problem of thinning and baldness in people who have hair loss or hair loss. The process of transplanting healthy hair follicles to areas where the hair follicle is no longer active and where hairlessness occurs with microsurgical methods is called hair transplantation. In hair transplantation, the patient's own healthy hair is added to the area where hair loss occurs. Hair transplantation is planned and applied completely individually. With the hair transplant operation, hair follicles resistant to hair loss are collected, usually in the nape of the neck of the patient, and transplanted into channels opened in the areas where thinning or complete loss occurs. The aim is to provide a natural, permanent haired appearance in the head area that will not be visible. Hair transplantation is actually a minor surgical operation. Therefore, it is the safest way to have it performed in a hospital environment by specialist and experienced doctors and teams. With hair transplantation, the person's own hair is permanently restored as if they had never lost it. Our aim in hair transplantation is to provide the person with a comfortable natural haired appearance with modern medical applications.
How is hair transplantation done?
In practice, hair follicles taken from the nape are usually transplanted to the targeted hairless area. These hair follicles are called grafts. In rare cases, there is not enough healthy hair on the nape or temple area of the person. In such cases, hair follicles can also be taken from other areas containing hair, such as the person's arms or chest wall. The application takes a few hours depending on the amount of hair loss. If the hairless area is very large, several sessions may be required to complete the treatment.
The intervention is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation. After the hair transplant, a special bandage is applied to the head. The person is discharged after 1-2 hours. Although very rare, pain is controlled with painkillers. Usually, after 3 days of home rest, the person can return to work with the head covered. The first dressing is done on the 5th day.
What is the most important element for hair transplantation?
Hair transplantation is a serious surgical procedure. In order to minimize the risks of hair transplantation, it should be done in a hospital environment. It is very important for this to be performed by well-trained and experienced plastic surgeons in order to obtain the best results. In order for hair transplantation to be successful in the operation, the transplanted hair follicles must quickly become bloody in the area where they are placed, in other words, they must “hold”. If the correct technique is applied, the success rate of hair transplantation is quite high. For a natural look, it is very important to transplant the hair to the bald areas at the right distance, at the right angle and in the right density.
Does the transplanted hair fall out after hair transplantation?
The transplanted hair falls out within a few weeks following the transplantation procedure; however, this is normal. Because the lost hair will grow back after 3-4 months. After this temporary loss is corrected, the transplanted hair follicles retain their characteristics and do not fall out. However, the original hair in the same area may continue to fall out over time and a new hair transplant may be planned in the future depending on the decrease in hair density. Hair loss may continue progressively after surgery. Especially if an unnatural appearance occurs in the new hairline area, an additional surgical intervention may be required in the future.
Who can have hair transplantation?
Hair transplantation can be performed on all individuals of all ages, starting from the ages of 19-20, who have had hair loss problems for various reasons, who do not have a physiological disease that prevents hair transplantation and who have enough follicles in the donor area.
